It started with a kiss….
My name is Shelley. To all my pointy nosed friends I am known as Sass and sometimes Sassypants (but that’s a story for another time). I am a self taught artist specialising in sighthound illustration.
Whippets are my personal obsession and you will notice a lot of my work dedicated to capturing this wonderful, quirky and totally delightful breed. I’ve always been a creative person and when I began painting my whippets a couple of years ago, greyhounds and other animals seemed a natural progression for me.
My not so secret love affair with sighthounds started in 2011 when I was adopted by my first whippet, Picasso. We met in the exercise yard of a Perth breeder when I first started thinking about being adopted.
Out of half a dozen or more adult and puppy whippets, one regally fine, blue and white whippet raced up to me mid zoomies and showered me with kisses. Of course, it was kismet. Three year old Picasso came home with me and through mutual adoration, Sass Artworks was born. Since that fateful Perth day, my pack and passions have grown with Miss Tilly our gorgeous brindle and white girl joining us in 2014 and our latest bundle of fur called Ezra, a comical Cornish Rex.
One interesting fact about my designs is that the concept sketches are most often created in the last ten minutes of my lunch break. Pretty cool huh?
Originally, my illustrations were traditional ink on paper until my hubby Dan bought me an iPad. Now most of my illustrations are digitally drawn. Rest assured, they are still hand drawn only now I am using an Apple pencil on a screen.
